Corn and soybean exports remain below 4-week average

Wheat, corn, soybeans and other agricultural commodities saw significant transactions, reflecting international demand.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest Export Sales Highlights for the week of June 28-July 4, 2024, reveal substantial activity across various agricultural commodities, reflecting dynamic international demand and market shifts.

Wheat

Net sales of 240,400 metric tons (MT) for the 2024/2025 period were recorded, with significant purchases by Thailand (60,800 MT), Japan (58,400 MT), Indonesia (53,800 MT), Mexico (30,700 MT), and Italy (20,000 MT). The sales were offset by minor reductions for the Leeward and Windward Islands (400 MT). Exports totaled 294,600 MT, primarily to Japan (91,700 MT), South Korea (67,600 MT), Thailand (58,300 MT), Mexico (36,200 MT), and the Leeward and Windward Islands (18,600 MT).

Corn

Net sales for 2023/2024 reached 538,300 MT, a 51% increase from the previous week but 13% below the prior 4-week average. Key buyers included Colombia (200,600 MT), Japan (188,300 MT), Mexico (177,600 MT), South Korea (60,800 MT), and El Salvador (30,700 MT). The sales were partially offset by reductions for unknown destinations (142,300 MT) and Panama (500 MT). Exports totaled 879,100 MT, with significant shipments to Mexico (353,500 MT), Japan (195,300 MT), Colombia (120,700 MT), South Korea (66,100 MT), and Costa Rica (39,700 MT).

Soybeans

Net sales of 208,000 MT for 2023/2024 were down 9% from the previous week and 40% from the prior 4-week average. Major buyers included the Netherlands (109,900 MT), Mexico (62,100 MT), Egypt (50,000 MT), Japan (30,500 MT), and Indonesia (14,900 MT). Exports totaled 267,300 MT, with the Netherlands (109,900 MT), Indonesia (34,400 MT), Japan (31,900 MT), Mexico (21,100 MT), and Colombia (20,200 MT) being the primary destinations.

Rice

Net sales of 27,900 MT for 2023/2024 remained unchanged from the previous week but were down 42% from the prior 4-week average. Significant buyers included Nicaragua (23,200 MT) and Mexico (5,500 MT). Exports reached 72,000 MT, up 40% from the previous week, with shipments primarily to Mexico (31,200 MT), Nicaragua (25,600 MT), Haiti (7,400 MT), South Korea (4,000 MT), and Canada (1,900 MT).

Beef and Pork

Beef net sales hit a marketing-year low of 8,300 MT, down 46% from the previous week. Major buyers included South Korea (2,500 MT), China (1,900 MT), Japan (1,400 MT), Canada (800 MT), and Taiwan (400 MT). Exports totaled 14,300 MT, primarily to Japan (3,800 MT), South Korea (2,600 MT), China (2,000 MT), Mexico (1,800 MT), and Taiwan (1,800 MT).

Pork net sales were 26,500 MT, down 55% from the previous week. Key buyers included Mexico (9,000 MT), Japan (6,400 MT), China (3,400 MT), Colombia (1,700 MT), and South Korea (1,700 MT). Exports totaled 32,400 MT, up 8%, with significant shipments to Mexico (14,100 MT), China (4,300 MT), Japan (3,400 MT), South Korea (2,500 MT), and Canada (2,200 MT).

Additional Commodities

Barley: No net sales reported for 2024/2025. Exports of 100 MT went to South Korea.

Sorghum: Net sales of 112,300 MT for 2023/2024 were down significantly from the previous week. Exports totaled 56,800 MT, all to China.

Cotton: Upland cotton net sales totaled 54,100 RB for 2023/2024, down 53% from the previous week. Major buyers included China (15,800 RB) and Pakistan (10,100 RB). Exports were 160,700 RB, with primary destinations including China (64,800 RB) and Pakistan (26,500 RB).

Soybean Oil: Net sales of 9,700 MT for 2023/2024 were down 41%. Exports totaled 11,500 MT, with shipments to Colombia (5,900 MT) and Venezuela (4,200 MT).
