Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is calling on Texans to join in celebrating National Corn Month this July. Highlighting the significant contributions of Texas corn producers, Commissioner Miller recognizes the vital role that corn plays in the state's economy, environment, and daily lives.

Texas farmers plant over 2 million acres of corn annually, generating an impressive $1.7 billion for the state's economy each year. The corn industry not only supports countless jobs in agronomy, trucking, and logistics but also represents one of Texas' most versatile crops. Commissioner Miller emphasizes that the hard work and innovative practices of Texas farmers keep the state’s agricultural sector thriving.

"National Corn Month is a time to tip our hats to the hardworking Texas farmers who keep our tables full and our economy thriving," said Commissioner Miller. "As one of the top corn-producing states in the country, Texas takes pride in the sustainable and innovative practices our farmers use, keeping Texas the agriculture powerhouse that it is."

Corn is a key ingredient in many beloved Texas foods, such as chili and tortillas, which are integral to the state's culinary identity. Additionally, corn plays a crucial role in livestock feed, supporting the health of Texas' cattle, poultry, and swine industries. Corn is also used in various industrial applications, including ethanol production, which helps fuel cars and trucks across the state.

During National Corn Month, Commissioner Miller and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) encourage everyone to recognize and appreciate the extensive impact of corn. From enjoying meals made with Texas-grown corn and using ethanol-blended fuel to acknowledging the importance of corn in animal feed, there are many ways to celebrate the versatility and value of this incredible crop.
