Sorghum on the Rise in Texas Panhandle

Sorghum VIA PIXABAY April 2021

A grain crop grown in the Texas Panhandle is making a strong comeback -- grain sorghum prospects are looking more than favorable for 2021, reports KVII.

Ag producers and farmers are planting more sorghum this spring because it's more economical to grow and takes less time from seed-into-the-ground to harvest.

“Sorghum is a very drought tolerant and heat tolerant crop so it’s very well adapted to dryland acres as well as limited irrigation," Jourdan Bell, agronomist with Texas A&M Agri Life, told KVII. "As producers are making tough decisions on how to manage declining well capacities, sorghum really does fit in well to our production systems.”
